一年一度的澳洲大学入学考试和招生工作已经开始。大学的现状怎么样?本报以“大学盲目投资,谁在为此买单”为题,揭示了目前大学教育管理中存在的一个严重问题。一方面乱花钱,另一方面钱不够花,于是,从本地教职员工到海外留学生都成了大学经营管理不善的受害者。
有消息说,90%的在澳出生华人子女的家庭用语是华语。此外,在中国出生的在澳华人已达31万,其中25%的人拥有学士以上学位(指25至64岁年龄组),目前在澳的中国留学生为14.6万名。不知道人们对这组消息有何感受?又能从中获得怎样的有关教育方面的信息?
中国政府及相关教育机构越来越重视对外汉语教育,采取了一系列卓有成效的措施和方法来提升对外汉语教学的质量和水平。本报借助《人民日报海外版》“学中文”等栏目提供的资料,对此时有报道。本期发表的两篇专文就如何走出汉语教育“瓶颈”和开发中文电化教学问题作了介绍,值得有关和有志于从事汉语教育工作的人士加以注意。
刚刚结束的在中国成都举办的第一届世界华文教育大会,是具有标志性意义的大事。本报主编、澳大利亚新金山中文学校创办人孙浩良先生应邀出席了这次会议,本期封面和相关的图片新闻报道便是由孙先生从现场发回的。本报能跻身于海外华文教育事业并为此贡献绵力深感荣幸,作为本报主要协作单位的新金山中文学校,多年来为海外华文教育事业的发展所做的努力和取得的成绩也得到了有关领导部门和同行们的首肯。本期再次用较多篇幅介绍了新金山中文学校近年来所取得的教学成果,其用意就是为了吸引更多的华人家庭重视子女的华文教育,把自己的孩子送到像新金山中文学校这样的高质量、高水平的周末中文学校去接受本民族的语言文化教育。
新金山中文图书馆已经开放半年多了。本报对该馆的各项活动时有报道。本期除了连续发表严斌全教授撰写的有关唐人街的研究报告以外,还专题报道了近期“读者文化沙龙”关于澳洲多元文化社会的讨论。我们欢迎本报读者更加经常地造访新金山中文图书馆,更加热心地参与新金山中文图书馆组织的各项活动。顺便为该馆做一个广告:又有一批有关中国当代历史、政治和文化的书刊从香港购入,现已陈列在阅览室内,供有兴趣的读者阅读,恕不外借。
Introduction(No.102) Applications for 2010 university admission are open now in Australia. What are the right choices for applicants? The feature report in this issue-- “Who is suffering from bad investments of universities?”-- has revealed a serious management problem in tertiary education sectors: on the one hand, universities have complained about insufficient funds for many years; on the other hand, some of them lost huge amount of capital in bad investments, making staff and international students victims of management failure.
It is reported that 90% of second generation of Chinese immigrants in Australia speak Chinese at home. Another report says that 310,000 Chinese in Australia were born in China, among which 25% obtain Bachelor’s degree or above in the age group of 25 to 64 and 146,000 are overseas students. What do people think of these reports and from which what kind of educational information they would find?
Chinese language learning and teaching overseas has been increasingly valued by Chinese government and responsible education authorities who have taken successful measures to improve its quality and achievement. The column of “Chinese language learning” in People Daily Overseas Edition has been republished here regularly. In this issue, you will find two articles about how to break through the bottleneck of Chinese language teaching and how to adapt new technology in teaching, which might attract the interest of current and potential Chinese language teachers.
The first World Chinese Language Conference held at Chengdu is a landmark event. The chief editor of this journal and founder of Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Sun Haoliang has attended the conference on the invitation and the picture on the front cover comes from his report. It is our honor to contribute to Chinese language learning and teaching overseas and we are pleased that our years of contribution and achievements have been acknowledged and appreciated by responsible authorities and within the profession. We would like to present you in this issue many of the achievements made by Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School, hoping that Chinese parents pay more attention to Chinese language education and help children learn their own ethical language in a quality weekend Chinese school like Xin Jin Shan.
Xin Jin Shan Chinese Library has opened for over 6 months and many activities held in the library have been reported in our journal. In this issue, you will find a research on China Town written by Yan Binquan and a discussion about multiculturalism in Australia organized by the Readers’ Salon. You are welcome to visit the library and take active part in its activities. By the way, I would like to make a promotion for the library here: a new set of books about contemporary Chinese history, politics and culture has been purchased from HongKong and displayed in the reading room for anyone who has the interest to read them. Currently they are not available for loan.
