本期导读（No.104）
最近，澳洲接二连三地发生私立院校破产倒闭事件。且不说导致倒闭背后的真实原因究竟是什么，因倒闭而造成大批海外留学生失学和严重的经济损失，已足以使澳洲政府脸上蒙羞。在这大批海外留学生中有相当一部分是来自中国的学子。作为他们的血肉同胞，澳洲的华人社区更应该给予他们更多的关注和同情。本报以“请像关怀自己的孩子一样关怀海外学子”为题，发表了一篇特稿，敬请读者朋友垂注。
前不久，澳洲政府召开国际教育大会和大学生圆桌会议，专门就澳洲高等教育中存在的一系列严重问题展开讨论。政府一再承诺要加强监管和维护海外留学生权益，但总是“雷声大，雨点小”，说的多，做的少，我们且看今年的年终教育总结报告是如何向选民交待的吧。
说到期末，又该是总结一年教学成果的时候了。新金山中文学校和辅导学校在这一年里取得的成绩确实不小。近几期我们连续发表了两校所属各个分校的专版，本期发表的“让我们一起来学写作”，介绍的是新金山辅导学校两位英语老师的英语写作教学体会和部分家长的反馈。虽然全文较长，并且是汉、英双语并用的，但并不难懂。由于同样的原因，新金山中文学校精英中文班王平青老师所写的“闲话作文”分两期载完，她的文章平实而实用，纯属经验之谈，相信对其他老师和同学都是有启发的。程驰老师在教学上另有一功，她教出来的学生，思维活跃，想象力丰富，学习兴趣浓厚，本报特意选发了其中的几篇学生作文，请读者，尤其是学生、老师和家长们一起来评品。
还有两所学校也应该在“导读”里特别提一下的，那就是长期与本报合作的“晓平学校”与“时代体育舞蹈学校”。这两所学校差不多与本报是同时问世的。与本报一样，他们不仅很快站住了脚，而且在华人社区里产生了越来越大的影响，这证明华人对教育的需求是急切的，也是多方面的。本月29日和下月6日，时代体育舞蹈学校要举办两场汇报演出；在即将到来的新年长假里，晓平学校还要举办“孩子成功学假期EQ班”。这些活动对于关心子女健康成长的家长们都是难得的好机会。
最后，我们还要发布一条学校消息。由未来中文艺术学校和新金山中文学校连袂演出的“庆圣诞，迎新年大型儿童文艺汇演”将于11月27日晚上在Forest College剧场举行，欢迎大家光临。
Introduction（No.104） In the last few months, several private colleges have closed down in Australia. The large number of overseas students left in limbo and huge lost in economy have brought great shame upon the Government, let alone the reasons behind the closure of these colleges. Among these affected international students, there are a great number of Chinese students. All the Chinese residents should show more sympathy to and concern for these young people with whom we share the same origin and culture. In this issue, you will find a special feature “Love your children, love overseas Chinese students” which I hope could attract your attention.
A couple of weeks ago, the Government organized the International Education Conference and the International Student Round Table meeting, discussing the problems higher education sectors were facing. The Rudd government have committed repeatedly that the supervision of the higher education will be tightened to defend the rights of overseas students. However, this is only loud thunder but small raindrops. The Government has talked too much, but little has been done. Let’s see how the Labor would say to his voters in his End-of-Year Report.
Speaking of end-of-year, it’s time to sum up the achievement in 2009. XJS Chinese Language and Cultural School and XJS Coaching School have done a great job this year. In the last few issues, articles from different campuses of the two schools have been published. And in this issue, we would like to present you in the column “Let’s learn writing together” some teaching stories of two English teachers and the feedbacks of parents whose children sit writing classes in XJS Coaching School. Although the articles might be a bit long given that they are presented both in English and Chinese, they are quite readable. The story “About writing” by a Chinese teacher Wang Pingqing is also worth reading which is purely out of her teaching experience and can be very irradiative for students and teachers. It also needs to be published within two issues. Another Chinese teacher Cheng Chi also has a very special talent in language teaching. You can always find the writings by her students well organized by logic and reason and rich in imagination and witty language. Some of excellent writings are selected in this issue and hope all the students, teachers and parents could appreciate them.
There are two other schools I would like to mention here, “Xiaoping School” and “Times Dance Studio” who were found at nearly the same period as the foundation of this journal. They soon took root as we did in Chinese community and grew up rapidly, which met the urgent and multi-faceted needs of education among the Chinese community. On 29 November and 6 December, there will be two public performances presented by Times Dance Studio; And Xiaoping School will run a School Holiday EQ program during this summer holiday. Parents will find both of the activities and programs mentioned above precious opportunities for children’s esteem and wellbeing.
In addition, there is a piece of news I would like to let you know. In the evening of 27 November, at the theatre of Forest College, a Christmas and New Year show is arranged by Future Chinese Arts Schools and XJS Chinese Language and Culture School and you would find the performance by students of these two schools gorgeous and memorable.
